14th Annual Scientific Symposium
Invitation and Call for Abstracts
October 20, 2009
Dear Colleague:

The University of Rochester James P. Wilmot Cancer Center 14th Annual Scientific Symposium will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2009, 9 am–4 pm in the Class of 62 Auditorium and in the Flaum Atrium. The purpose of the symposium is to bring together scientists working in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. Activities will include oral presentations and a poster session.
Oral presentations (9:00 – 1:00pm) will feature our various research programs with one 20 minute talk each. The poster themes for this year’s symposium are: Biomedical Engineering, Experimental Hematology/Hematological Cancer, Solid Tumor Biology and Therapy, Cancer Control/Epidemiology, Molecular and Cell Biology/Immunology. In addition, we will have a presentation by this year's Davey award winner (before lunch) and a lecture by an outside speaker (at 3:00pm).
All members of the University community are invited to submit abstracts for posters on basic or clinical cancer-related research. “Cancer-related” may be interpreted in the broadest sense. Abstracts are solicited from a wide variety of areas including molecular biology, virology, epidemiology, gene therapy, cancer treatment, and behavioral and outcomes research. Important: Abstracts and Posters must be marked clearly as belonging to one of the five programmatic categories: DNA/RNA, Cell Biology/Immunology, Experimental Hematology/Hematological Cancer, Solid Tumor Biology & Therapy, Cancer Control/Epidemiology.
Poster set-up will be in the morning beginning at 8:30 am. The poster session will take place from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
Poster Prizes:
Five Poster Prizes for $100 each will be awarded to the best poster in each of the categories. In addition, a single grand prize will be awarded to an individual out of the group of five winners. This individual will receive an additional $500 as a stipend for attending and presenting at a national/international scientific conference.
Registration and ABSTRACTS MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY. Originals or faxes will not be accepted. The deadline for abstract submission is December 3, 2009. All abstracts will be accepted and will be displayed as posters.
All abstracts for posters must follow these guidelines:
- Abstract category must be clearly noted at the top of the Abstract Template Form page.
- Type the title in CAPITAL LETTERS, underline the presenting author’s name and indicate departmental affiliation.
- Abstracts must be single-spaced, Times New Roman type with a 12-point font, one page and fit into the space provided on the Abstract Template Form page. All abstracts will be reproduced as submitted.
