and Program in Cellular and Molecular Basis of Medicine Seminars
are generally held on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m. in the Pharmacology and Physiology
Conference Room (4-6912). These seminars are presented by University
of Rochester faculty or by guest speakers from other institutions.

Paul Horowicz Lecture, September 19, 2008
The Paul Horowicz Lecture was given by Dr. Martin F. Schneider, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Maryland School of Medicine. The title of his lecture was "Signaling Mechanisms for Ca2+ Release and for Activity Dependent Plasticity in Skeletal Muscle." Dr. Horowicz was chair of the Department of Physiology for 26 years and was an exemplary leader and highly respected member of the medical school faculty.
Paul Stark Lecture,
April 7, 2008
The Paul Stark Lecture was given by Dr. George F. Koob, Professor and Chair, Committee on the Neurobiology of Addictive Disorders, The Scripps Research Institute. The title of his lecture was "The Dark Side of Addiction: Role of Brain Stress Systems." The Paul Stark Professorship is made
possible by a generous gift to the department by Paul Stark, who received
his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Pharmacology in 1964.
John R. Murlin Lecture, April
30, 2004
The Murlin Lecture was given by Dr. Bertil Hille from the University
of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle. Dr. Murlin established
the Department of Vital Economics at the Medical School at the University
of Rochester in 1925 and served as its chair until the department
merged with Physiology in 1945.
