Chang is the lead informatician and senior associate for UR CTSI informatics.

“This credential recognizes my professional achievements and leadership in applying informatics skills and knowledge toward the goal of improving human health,” Chang said. “This will also help to position UR CTSI more strongly within the CTSA Program informatics community.”

The FAMIA program honors informatics professionals leveraging the latest advances in the field to enhance individual and population health outcomes, and who demonstrate professionalism and leadership of benefit to the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) community.

“As product owner for research-oriented informatics solutions, I spearheaded the creation and expansion of our Research Data Warehouse and the implementation and integration of the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership—OMOP—Common Data Model, among other key projects,” Chang said. “In partnership with ISD at the medical center, I am committed to advancing our technological infrastructure to meet the diverse and evolving needs of our research community.”

Chang’s work also involves delivering electronic medical record data for research while managing the Secure Environment for Research Data Analytics, or SERDA, as it is more commonly known.

“Jack is exemplary in his commitment to attention to detail, best-practice methods for tools and data services, and maintaining high and appropriate ethical standards in working with and implementing solutions for electronic health record data for research,” said Jeanne Holden-Wiltse, MPH, MBA, director of informatics at UR CTSI. “Decisions for expansion of the research databases and associated tools are greatly informed by his years of working with researchers to understand current and emerging data needs. This honor is well deserved.”

The 2024 class of fellows will be honored at the AMIA 2024 Clinical Informatics Conference in May.

“I am grateful for the mentorship and encouragement of UR CTSI Co-Director Martin Zand and Informatics Director Jeanne Holden-Wiltse,” Chang said. “This is an achievement that would not have been possible without their support and backing from UR CTSI.”
