Deaf Strong Hospital: Seeing Health Care through Deaf Eyes

For over ten years, the National Center for Deaf Health Research (NCDHR) at URMC has been hosting this interactive role-reversal exercise, called Deaf Strong Hospital. This annual exercise is an opportunity for UR medical students to walk a mile in a Deaf person's shoes by navigating through a mock healthcare system in which American Sign Language is the primary language. 

'Tell how you are planning your future' for KL2 award

Robert Holloway, M.D., M.P.H., offers advice to young faculty about applying for a KL2 award, which provides $75,000 a year for two years to help young faculty hone their skills, define goals, and compete for independent funding. Letters of intent for this round of awards are due on or before October 10. 

Testing New Ways to Enroll At-Risk Populations in Clinical Research

A new award from the HIV Vaccine Trials Network will allow investigators to evaluate whether the computer tablet-based health survey “e-screening” tool, Promote Health, will help recruit and retain high-risk individuals into an HIV prevention clinical trial. 

New Opportunity for Postdoctoral Research in Population Health

The UR CTSI is implementing a new Population Health Research Postdoctoral Fellowship Program to produce population health researchers who can conceptualize research across the translational spectrum – from molecules to populations. Positions are open to scientists with backgrounds in basic, clinical, translational, or population health research.
