Program Director
We offer an ACGME-accredited epilepsy fellowship program based at the UR Medicine Epilepsy Center and Pediatric Epilepsy Program, Level 4 National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Our strength is our multidisciplinary team including adult and pediatric board-certified epileptologists, neurosurgeon, psychosocial team, and dietician. The center is housed within Strong Memorial Hospital in its academic neurology department widely regarded as one of the top Departments of Neurology in the country. Our clinical and investigative interests include global health, treatment of seizures in brain tumor patients, and surgical and alternative therapies for the management of epilepsy.
We have a flexible curriculum which can be modified to fit a fellow’s specific educational and career goals. Epilepsy fellows can divide their time in interpreting inpatient long term video EEG, managing the in-patient epilepsy service, and doing research. Fellows participate in their own continuity clinic, spend time with clinical epileptilogists in the attending outpatient specialty clinics and rotate in neuromodulation and dietary therapy clinics in adult or pediatric epilepsy. There are electives in neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurogenetics, and neurocritical care, and additional electives may be tailored to a fellow’s interests. We encourage fellows to schedule electives to enhance their career goals. Strong Memorial Hospital fellows receive at least three weeks of vacation per year, with additional time allowed for attendance at scientific or medical meetings. There is support to attend national meetings if the fellow is presenting their work.
