How do I apply to the Neurology Residency Program?

Applicants must apply to the Neurology Residency Program at the University of Rochester through ERAS. We do not accept paper applications.
 
The University of Rochester Neurology Residency Program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Please ensure that you have registered with the National Resident Matching Program. For more information, applicants should contact the Help Desk at +1 (866) 653-6767.
 

What documents are required as part of my application? 

  • Personal Statement
  • Four Letters of Recommendation
  • Medical School Transcript
  • USMLE Scores for Step 1, once taken
  • Personal Photograph
  • MSPE Letter – This will automatically upload into the ERAS database.
  • Curriculum Vitae – An updated CV should be provided at the time of the interview

Does your program include the preliminary year?

The Adult Neurology Residency Program at the University of Rochester is a four-year categorical program in neurology that includes a preliminary (PGY-1) year of internal medicine training. This preliminary year is supervised by both the neurology and internal medicine program directors. The core curriculum of the first year is identical to that of the First Year Categorical Medicine residents.
 

What qualifications are required for applying to your program?

Applicants to the Neurology Residency Program must be graduates of an approved U.S. or Canadian Medical School, or foreign medical graduates who have been certified through the ECFMG at the time of application. 
 

When and how does your program notify applicants about interviews?

The program director will send an email via Thalamus to invite an applicant for an interview.
 

When are interviews scheduled? 

Interviews are scheduled each Monday between October 14, 2024 and January 6, 2025 (No interviews during the holiday weeks 12/23 and 12/30/24).
 

Do you accept International Medical Graduates? 

Yes, we accept international graduates who satisfy our application requirements.
 

What type of visa do you accept?

The University of Rochester training programs sponsor J-1 visas through the ECFMG. 
 

What are your USMLE score requirements?

You must achieve a passing score on your first attempt on USMLE Steps 1 and 2 and/or COMLEX 1 & 2 for D.O. Applicants.
 

Do you have a graduation cut off date?

Yes, our graduation cut off date is June 30, 2019 for the current match cycle. 
 

Do you require clinical experience in the United States?

Yes, please include this in your application information.
 

Does your program offer a pre-match?

No. We do not offer pre-match positions. 
 

Are there any special requirements for Doctor of Osteopathy applicants?

No, there are no special requirements for Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) applicants.
