Department Overview
The Department of Emergency Medicine at University of Rochester Medical Center welcomes you.
We are a strong unit of dedicated professionals, who are committed to providing safe, high quality, and efficient care to every patient, every day.
With our vision to constantly refine and update clinical care we also have a dedicated Center for Emergency Medicine Research and Center for Simulation in Emergency Medicine.
We also are second nationwide among academic departments in NIH funding.
Injury-Free Coalition For Kids
We have furthered our mission to humanity by actively engaging ourselves in the health of kids in Rochester through the Injury-Free Coalition for Kids.
Frank and Caroline Gannett Emergency Department
The region's largest and most modern emergency facility, housed in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, opened its upgraded doors in March 2001. It was designed to ensure rapid delivery of emergent care to adults and children.
The center has been designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Regional Trauma Center—Level 1, the highest level achievable.
Highland Hospital Emergency Department
A newly commissioned 17,551 square foot emergency department accommodates 26 acute care patient beds.
Both our Clinical Care Units feature a "Fast-Track" unit, a treat and release area that serves patients with minor conditions, allowing us to expedite their treatment as we answer the growing national question of crowded EDs.
