About the Program
The University of Rochester’s Department of Orthopaedics has one of the country’s foremost musculoskeletal research programs, outstanding comprehensive care teams, and one of the largest and best training programs for young surgeons. Many of our physicians are also researchers, and bring their breakthrough medical insights to the examination room, the surgical center, and the bedside. Our Center for Musculoskeletal Research has ranked among the top five NIH-funded musculoskeletal research centers for more than a decade.
Recognizing a community need
The Center for Orthopaedics and Physical Performance will fulfill an unmet need for comprehensive musculoskeletal care, offering the finest orthopaedic care available:
- Services will encompass outpatient surgery and ambulatory therapy, plus wellness, injury prevention, and physical performance training.
- Providers will be clinician-researchers who deliver expert care and pioneer innovative new treatments.
- We will unite care teams from different disciplines—surgery, imaging, physical therapy, behavioral health and rehabilitation—who will work in collaboration to treat patients and guide recovery.
- Our new Center will help us further grow successful programs designed to reduce injury and promote overall wellness, such as Fitness Science at CHAMPP (Center for Human Athleticism and Musculoskeletal Performance and Prevention), which combines movement analysis and training, nutrition consultation, and mental skills coaching.Learn how Isaiah Stewart, a Rochester native and member of the Detroit Pistons, jumpstarted his NBA career with the help of Fitness Science.
