Screen for Lung Cancer...NOW! Evidence and Options (45 minutes)
Ben Wandtke, MD, MS
Michael Nead MD, PhD
Program Description
Research has demonstrated the ability of annual CT lung screening participation to reduce lung cancer and overall patient mortality. Despite this research, utilization rates of CT lung screening remain very low nationally and in NY state. Collaboration between primary care, pulmonology, radiology and others is required to increase lung cancer screening rates.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation participants should be able to:
1. Define the 2021 USPSTF lung cancer screening inclusion criteria.
2. Appreciate the magnitude of the potential population health impact of CT lung screening.
3. Describe the local resources in place to assist patients and referring providers to facilitate CT lung screening and smoking cessation.
