Lung Image Processing

Lung Image ProcessingThe LungMap project seeks to provide a comprehensive, publically-available resource for the study of lung development. The University of Rochester is acting as the human tissue core for this project, with donor lungs being delivered to the University for histological analysis and imaging with computed tomography (CT). Each of these CT scans is reconstructed in 3D, and the airways segmented from the surrounding lung tissue. These segmented airways are used to generate filament representations of the bronchiole tree, in order to quantify airway branching and size. The goal is to analyze these quantitative data for their relationship to comorbidities and genetic factors.
