Interaction between Staphylococcus aureus and commensal bacteria on the Skin of Patients with Atopic Dermatitis
Skin microbiome studies of subjects with atopic dermatitis (AD) and healthy individuals, have consistently reported an inverse relationship between the relative abundance of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), which is increased on the skin surface of AD subjects, and several of the major skin commensal bacteria. This leads us to investigate potential interactions between S. aureus and these commensals. These studies are being performed in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Steven R. Gill.
