Welcome to the Hill Movement Biomechanics Lab

The goal of the Hill lab is to promote equitable translation of biomechanics research by informing clinical care, evaluating biomechanical contributors to health disparities, and exploring intersectionality within the context of biomechanics.

Focusing on the temporomandibular and lower extremity joints, our lab describes large-scale biomechanical joint function with a diversely robust and intersectional perspective. To do so, we use methodologies such as 3D motion capture, force and pressure sensors, inertial measurement units, electromyography, and computational modeling. Our lab investigates how movement mechanics vary throughout the population and are influenced by an individual’s characteristics. Using this information, we aim to mitigate health disparities by identifying and targeting distinctions in biomechanical joint function.

We are also committed to promoting awareness and understanding of biomechanics research through transparent community engagement and outreach. Our hope is that such efforts will enable more fruitful research interactions and potential for traditionally under-served populations to benefit from biomechanics research.
