Emergency Medicine Industry Sponsored Research Program
Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Industry Sponsored Research Program
The Emergency Medicine Industry-Sponsored Research Program is focused on fostering robust partnerships between academic researchers and for-profit industry partners. The Industry-Sponsored Research Program addresses the needs of our industry partners, funds work outside the scope of state and federal agencies, and drives research commercialization. The Industry-Sponsored Research Program has established itself as a reliable and high-enrolling site for emergency medicine clinical trials.
Our program has a strong history in securing industry-sponsored funding, and leverages the rich talent pool in Emergency Medicine and UR Medicine at large. We conduct observational, diagnostic, and therapeutic clinical trials spanning the breadth of emergency and clinical medicine.
Our Emergency Department serves a diverse patient population with a wide variety of pathology. With over 115,000 patient visits per year, this gives us a natural pool of patients with whom we can explore a multitude of questions. In addition to our Emergency Department, Pediatric Emergency Department, and 27-bed observation unit, the Industry-Sponsored Research Program has expansion capability by utilizing our network of urgent care centers and network hospitals. Collaborations with other hospital departments and facilities extend our reach into the robust, over-arching community of clinical research.

Research Operations and Support
We offer all of our industry partners a significant level of collaborative support and high quality service. Our clinical research infrastructure provides the tools and resources to facilitate every aspect of a clinical trial, from idea inception to close-out. All clinical trials are managed through the University of Rochester Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA), which reviews and approves all contractual documents.
Our dedicated research holds itself to the highest of standards when it comes to patient satisfaction, strong enrollment statistics, and the ethical conduct of clinical research. Each clinical trial poses unique recruiting, ethical, and regulatory challenges. So, we created a training program for all operations staff, which is completed in addition to any study-specific training. Adherence to our internal processes and FDA guidelines for research and good clinical practices is what leads our program to constantly evolve, improve, and efficiently provide industry sponsors with quality data and successful trials.
Laboratory
The Industry-Sponsored Research Program in Emergency Medicine has its own dedicated state-of-the-art BSL-2 clinical research laboratory with dedicated staff. The lab is equipped with work stations, a chemical hood, two -80 degree freezers, one -20 degree freezer, a refrigerator, and refrigerated centrifuge. Our laboratory has full capabilities to process blood, saliva, urine, and other samples for analysis and storage. In addition, the lab gives access to ship biological specimens for further testing. All instrumentation have up to date calibration documentation on file.
