URMC / Health Humanities and Bioethics / Education and Teaching

Educational and Teaching

Our educational work is focused on teaching and scholarship in classroom and in clinical settings.

The Biopsychosocial approach to healthcare education and practice is foundational to our institutional culture and informs our teaching and clinical work. We teach medical and nursing students, graduate students, residents, researchers and faculty and staff across the URMC and offer courses for undergraduates in arts, science and engineering on the main campus.

Arts, Sciences, & Engineering

Our department's work extends to the undergraduate campus at the university. We offer course and have leadership roles in:

  • Undergraduate Bioethics Major, launched in 2009, is the only one in the country.
  • DMH&B grad courses in the Master’s Degree program are offered to ASE grad students and to undergraduates at a 200 level.
  • Cluster for Health and Human Values is an interdisciplinary university-wide faculty group funded by Provost to support academic and educational activities (speakers, conferences) related to humanities, arts, and ethics in healthcare for the UR community.
