Bogachan Sahin, M.D., Ph.D.
Program Director

We are an ACGME-accredited vascular neurology fellowship program based at Strong Memorial Hospital, a Joint Commission-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center that cares for more than 1000 stroke patients each year. UR Medicine also has Upstate and Central New York's first Mobile Stroke Unit - the 13th in the nation. The unit helps us provide specialized, life-saving care to stroke victims before they even get to the hospital.

The Stroke Division is part of a vibrant academic department widely regarded as one of the top Departments of Neurology in the country. We consistently rank in the top 10 in terms of NIH research funding, and we have a nationally recognized tradition of excellence in medical and graduate medical education.

Life of a URMC Fellow

Our emphasis on work/life balance is an important reason fellows choose URMC. A focus on trainees' well-being enables you to learn and thrive in Rochester.

What Our Fellows Say...

"There is not a more supportive environment for stroke fellowship training in the nation. The Department Chair, the Division Chief, and especially the Fellowship Director each deserve to be recognized specifically for their remarkable dedication to education."

"The University of Rochester offers a very well structured and organized fellowship program with multiple learning opportunities. A significant amount of supervised independence is offered in running the acute stroke service and staffing evening and night float consults by phone with the residents. These experiences provide the best opportunities to develop the skills necessary for acute medical decision-making demanded by the specialty."
