Helene R. McMurray, Ph.D., is co-director of the Tissue Typing / Histocompatibility Laboratory, which provides state-of-the-art compatibility testing for the solid organ and stem cell transplantation services including HLA typing by molecular methods, antibody screening and identification, and cross-matching. Dr. McMurray is board certified by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) and holds a NYS Certificate of Qualification in Histocompatibility. Over Helene’s career in biomedical science, she has gained expertise in histocompatibility, cancer biology, genetics, genomics, and bioinformatics with publications and presentations of her scientific work in all these areas. Moreover, Dr. McMurray is a highly experienced educator who has taught numerous graduate-level courses in a variety of biomedical subject areas, as well as currently serving as program director for the PhD in Pathology.

Dr. McMurray conducts collaborative research projects using approaches in genomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, genetics and cell and molecular biology. With Drs. Hartmut "Hucky" Land, Matthew McCall and Aslihan Ambeskovic, Dr. McMurray studies gene regulatory networks underlying malignant cell transformation to understand the molecular architecture of cancer cells and identify cancer cell vulnerabilities. Dr. McMurray also contributes her genomics and bioinformatics expertise to the work of Drs. Carol Fries on the pediatric cancer B-ALL. With Drs. Myra Coppage, Elizabeth Sunderhaus, Emily Smithers and Reut Hod Dvorai, Dr. McMurray has also conducted several projects to address questions related to clinical histocompatibility testing.
