I am a Canadian trained physician, attending University of Western Ontario for medical school, then McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario for Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship. I did an extra clinical research year and also obtained further training in therapeutic ERCP. I was in private practice gastroenterology in Guelph, Ontario until 2019 and during that time was clinical faculty at McMaster University, becoming Clinical Professor in 2013. I worked for a 2 year stint in PEI, Canada before coming to URMC.

I have interest in evidence-based medicine with a MSc from McMaster University in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics. I have participated in numerous randomized, controlled trials. I have developed many professional guidelines and teaching programs for physicians. I am a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF 2011), the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAGF 2015) and the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG 2022).

My research interests started with Helicobacter pylori. I published the first meta-analysis (1992) on the treatment of Hp and treatment has been and remains my primary interest (Toronto consensus 2016). My research interests started with Helicobacter pylori. I published the first meta-analysis (1992) on the treatment of Hp and treatment has been and remains my primary interest (Toronto consensus 2016). I have looked at the effects of Hp on dyspepsia and with the CADET (Canadian Adult Dyspepsia Empiric Treatment) study group, we performed a number of relevant, randomized controlled trials to get direct evidence to develop management guidelines for upper GI symptoms/disorders (CanDys guidelines). I am interested in the related areas of upper GI - GERD. I have contributed to national guidelines in GERD consensus conferences. I am an expert in PPI's, a mainstay of treatment of upper GI disorders. Teaching practising physicians has always been a keen interest. I also have background in evidence-based medicine with a masters degree from McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada.
