Interventional Spine

UR Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Ramzi El-Hassan to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His clinical interest is in interventional spine rehabilitation.

Dr. El-Hassan completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester (2010). He then earned a master’s in science degree in Medical Physiology with a concentration in Anatomy from Case Western Reserve University (2013). He returned to his hometown of Syracuse, NY to complete his Medical Degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 2017 before returning to University of Rochester to complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2021. He subsequently completed a North American Spine Society fellowship in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine here at the University of Rochester. His clinical interests include interventional spine and musculoskeletal medicine. He has additional interests in teaching, clinical research, device development, and improving patient education/resources.

UR Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Adem Aktas to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His clinical interest is in neuromodulation and interventional spine rehabilitation.

Dr. Aktas earned his Bachelor of Science from the University at Buffalo in 2011.Additionally he earned his Masters of arts from the University at Buffalo in 2013 He then earned his Medical Degree in 2017 from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. In 2018, he completed a preliminary year in Internal Medicine at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School. He then finished his residency in 2021 for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His fellowship was with Washington University in St. Louis for interventional pain medicine concluded in 2022. During his residency, Dr. Aktas served as Chief of Medical Students from 2018-2021 years.

UR Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Kyle Smith to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His clinical interests are in musculoskeletal medicine and electromyography.

Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Syracuse University in 2012. He then earned his Medical Degree in 2018 from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. In 2022, he completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester Medical Center. During his residency, Dr. Smith served as Chief Resident during the 2021-2022 year.

UR Medicine is pleased to welcome Dr. Paula Horvath Finestone to the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is a Rehabilitation Psychologist with clinical interests in cognitive-behavioral and trauma-informed psychotherapies.

Dr. Horvath Finestone earned her Bachelor of Arts from Canisius College in 1983. She received a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 1987 and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1990, both from the University of Delaware.
