Adult Track

Adult Track Overview

The Adult track provides specialized clinical training with adults presenting with acute symptoms of serious psychiatric illness requiring a safe and therapeutic environment during evaluation and treatment. The Adult Psychology fellow will assist in the design, pilot, and evaluation of a new Intensive Therapy Program (ITP) across the units. The ITP aims to improve quality of care for patients admitted to our adult and/or geriatric inpatient psychiatry units by facilitating intensive individualized therapy to assist with crisis stabilization, reduced inpatient length of stay, and reduced re-admissions to our Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) and Inpatient Units. The Adult Psychology fellow will provide direct clinical care on the Adult and Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatry Units, including those patients participating in the ITP. The fellow will also work closely with several multidisciplinary treatment teams consisting of psychologists, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, social workers, nurses, recreation and creative arts therapists, and mental health therapists in a fast-paced environment. The fellow may also have opportunities for supervised teaching and supervision of junior trainees and multi-disciplinary clinical staff. Our Fellowship Launches psychologists who are highly qualified for careers in patient care, teaching, and administration.

Training Goals

The fundamental goals of the program are to enhance the fellow's knowledge base and clinical skills in acute psychopathology, assessment, consultation, treatment planning and implementation. In addition, the fellowship aims to enhance the fellow's program development, supervision, teaching and/or scholarship competencies. Toward this end, the fellow will take on increasing responsibility in a) patient care, b) interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration, c) program development and evaluation, and d) training of interns and other mental health professionals.
