4-1400 Acute Hemodialysis Unit

A multi-facility unit that provides renal replacement therapy for patients across the spectrum of kidney disease from acute kidney injury (AKI) to end stage renal disease (ESRD). Our dialysis unit cares for patients spanning the full continuum of life from pediatric to geriatric. Acute hemodialysis synthesizes nephrology nursing care with a diverse array of specialties, fostering continuous learning and skill development. This highly specialized department services Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, FF Thompson Hospital, and Golisano Children’s Hospital. This career opportunity features a flexible scheduling arrangement designed to accommodate diverse needs and promote work-life harmony for our staff. There is a dialysis specific nurse residency program available for new nurses interested in joining the dialysis nursing team!

4-1600 UR Medicine Cardiac Care Unit

21 beds

This unit cares for cardiac care patients receiving medical or surgical treatment for cardiovascular disease. The patient population includes pre-operative and post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients, patients admitted for cardiovascular disease management, re-admit left ventricular assist device (LVAD) patients, arrhythmia management, and patients with myocardial infarction (MI). Frequently cared for surgical patients include those receiving Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts, Aortic and Mitral Valve repairs, Aortic Aneurysm repairs, Carotid Endarterectomies, Abdominal Aneurysm repairs, various arterial stents, and Lower Extremity Bypasses. We welcome all nurses who have a passion for cardiac care to consider joining our team.

4-2800 Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)

22 beds

The CICU is a two-time winner of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Beacon award for critical care excellence. This award validates the excellent clinical and work environment standards that are upheld on the unit. The CICU is the region’s most comprehensive intensive care unit responsible for the care of the adult cardiac surgery, heart transplant, artificial heart support, intra aortic balloon pump, hypothermia protocol and cardiogenic shock patients. The unit also staffs the regions premiere Critical Care Transport Unit. This team is capable of transporting highly complex patients by ground and through the air, providing support to the surrounding hospitals and communities. The highly technical nature of the advances in treating these populations necessitates a highly organized orientation and continuing education process. The unit is staffed with 24/7 provider coverage and this collaborative approach ensures that our nurses have continuous support as they care for this complex population. With a dedicated leadership team and exceptional resources through the Acute Shock Resource Nurse team, the staff are highly supported and empowered to deliver exemplary care and achieve quality outcomes.

4-3400 Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplant Progressive Care Unit

23 beds

This Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a unique environment providing care to the Heart Failure population across the continuum of their disease. Patients cared for on this PCU include those awaiting heart transplants, those with Ventricular Assist Device therapy, and those undergoing advanced heart failure care. A unique feature of the unit is the ability to manage patients with invasive cardiac monitoring. The progressive nature of heart failure requires a multidisciplinary approach to provide consistent support and ongoing education. The dedicated staff is committed to providing knowledgeable and compassionate care. The training and continued technological advances allow us to promote a better quality of life for patients and their families. 7-1200 Thoracic, Surgical Specialty Unit

25 bed unit

This unit specializes in the pre and postoperative care of thoracic, plastic reconstructive and other surgical specialty patients. Nursing staff on this unit utilize a nurse driven, research and evidence-based practice approach to provide the highest quality care to this patient population. The team provides treatment and diagnosis in lung and esophageal cancer, GERD, reconstructive plastic surgery, as well as a variety of other care areas. Nurses looking for an opportunity to care for a wide variety of highly specialized surgical patients are welcome to join our team.

Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs

The Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Laboratory is a fast-paced procedural area that provides care to a variety of patients needing cardiac care. The Cardiac Cath/EP Lab is really three individual units that work together to provide comprehensive care to cardiac patients. Our department is staffed by Interventional Cardiologists, Electrophysiologists, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, Radiation Technologists, Licensed Practical Nurses, Cardiovascular/Electrophysiology Technologists, and numerous other support staff. 

The Cardiac Catheterization Lab manages the cardiac procedural care needs for patients with Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiogenic Shock, and Vascular Disease.

The Electrophysiology Lab are the electricians of the heart. They treat cardiac patients with dysrhythmias (abnormal or irregular heartbeats).

The Holding Area. This group of RNs prepare and recover 30-40 patients a day for a variety of cardiac procedures. The nursing staff in the Holding Area are responsible for all pre-procedure care and preparations, moderate sedation recovery, post anesthesia/PACU recovery, as well as admitting and boarding cardiac care patients overnight.
