About the Program
The Division of Acute Care Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center offers a one-year Fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care. The Fellowship is ACGME-accredited and fulfills requirements by the American Board of Surgery for Added Qualifications in Surgical Critical Care Certification after one year.
This Fellowship provides a flexible clinical year designed with clinical and administrative experience overseeing our newly constructed 25-bed Kessler Family ICU, our 12-bed Surgical ICU and the trauma/emergency general surgery services.
Curriculum
The Clinical Fellowship is split between the 25-bed Kessler Family ICU and the I2-bed Surgical ICU at the University of Rochester Medical. The program includes rotations in the Surgical ICU that provides care for liver transplant, vascular, major oncologic, burn service and several subspecialty surgical patients. Elective experiences on the Trauma/Emergency Surgery services are offered. The program provides electives in the MICU and the separate Cardiac or Pediatric ICUs.
Kessler Burn & Trauma Center
The Kessler Burn & Trauma Center is the State Designated Level 1 Trauma Hospital for the Finger Lakes Region of New York and treats 2000 trauma patients each year.
The Emergency Department records 80,000 visits per year and the Trauma Program is supported by a mature Regional EMS ground and air transport system.
