Research Resident Spotlight - November 2024

Molly Jacobs, MD

Tell us a little about your path to Surgery Residency.

Casabionca

I ended up choosing surgery as a career as a result of research! After undergrad, I worked in basic science and then clinical research, the latter of which was at a transplant center helping to manage their clinical trials. It was there I was introduced to the OR and knew that I wanted a career in surgery.

roleWhat does the role of mentorship in research mean to you?

In my opinion, the role of a mentor is to facilitate your growth in research. This means pushing you to think in different ways, expand your knowledge and grow your skills as an independent investigator.

focusWhat is your research focus?

I am working on several projects looking at outcomes in both benign and malignant pathology in the chest. I am also interested in optimizing healthcare delivery and care efficiency.

goalsWhat are your future goals?

My ultimate goal is to become an active clinician scientist, so I plan to use my research time to build that portion of my portfolio before diving back into clinical time and preparing for a fellowship application.
