The Hospital Medicine Division

The Hospitalist Medicine Division (HMD) is home of more than 20 faculty hospitalists and 40 mid-level practitioners at Strong Memorial Hospital. HMD hospitalists and MLP's work collaboratively with primary care physicians and specialists in the care of mutual patients.

A growing number of primary care physicians refer their patients to our hospitalist service for inpatient care. The HMD also cares for a large population of patients without primary care physicians.

In addition to their clinical work, hospitalists teach hospital medicine to medical students and internal medicine residents of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. They also serve in various leadership roles in the areas of hospital administration and quality improvement.
