Animal Resource PPE

SPF Rodent & Rabbit Rooms:  Exam gloves and gown.  Bonnets optional.

Based on peer reviewed publications, we stopped using shoe covers in SPF rodent & rabbit rooms since June 2020 because the following peer-reviewed publications indicate shoe covers pose more biosecurity risk than benefit in SPF rodent rooms.

Monkey rooms:  Exam gloves, gown, surgical face mask, face shield, shoe covers. Bonnet optional.  We wear eye and mouth protection to prevent contact with urine/saliva droplet splash.  Shoe covers prevent tracking feces out of the room.  

Ferret Room: Exam gloves, gown and face mask.  A surgical face mask is used to mitigate likelihood of asymptomatic influenza transmission from staff to ferrets.

Birds, Pigs, Sheep Rooms: Gowns and exam gloves.  Shoe covers optional.

Fish & Frog Rooms: Exam gloves
