What Is Deep Brain Stimulation?

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) uses electrical stimulation to treat neurological conditions. It blocks the faulty signals that are causing movement symptoms.

Deep Brain Stimulation may be used to treat:

UR Medicine's Approach

Deep Brain Stimulation includes extensive evaluation and consultation before and after the procedure.

DBS is done by placing an electrode inside the brain. The electrode is connected to a very small neurostimulator (electrical generator) which is put in your chest or abdomen. Electric current is sent from the neurostimulator to the electrode in the targeted part of brain tissue involved in your symptoms.

Surgical implantation of the three components of the DBS system (the implanted pulse generator (IPG), the lead, and the wire extension that connects them) can be done in one or two surgical steps.
