What is Gender-Affirming Communication?

Gender-affirming communication treatment helps you alter your voice and speech in a way that better aligns with your gender and feels more authentic to you.

This type of treatment may include:

  • Exploring your voice and communication
  • Working on overall vocal health
  • Therapy before and after surgery
  • Support during or after hormone replacement

UR Medicine's Approach

Our Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) will work with you to make sure you’re using healthy vocal techniques during this process. They will start with evaluating your personal goals for your voice, doing an assessment of your voice and communication, and reviewing treatment options.
