About the Department of Medicine
At the University of Rochester Medical Center, the Department of Medicine takes pride in being the biggest academic and clinical department. Our department consists of 14 divisions and we are dedicated to providing compassionate clinical care, educational excellence, and innovative research. We firmly believe in promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all of our faculty and staff, students and trainees, as well as our patients and their families.
Our team is comprised of nearly 500 faculty members, over 200 advanced practice providers, 200 residents and fellows, and 800 staff. We handle approximately 125,000 outpatient visits per year and around 16,000 inpatient discharges.

The Department of Medicine is home to numerous innovative and talented basic, clinical, and translational researchers and teams with the goal of promoting cutting-edge research to provide preventive and therapeutic strategies from the lab to the clinic. Our research portfolio includes a clinical trials portfolio with national and international focus, along with basic and translational research in various fields such as cancer therapeutics, cardiovascular disease, allergy, autoimmunity and rheumatology, pulmonary biology, endocrinology, aging, infectious disease and vaccine biology, kidney disease, hepatology, gastroenterology, and palliative care.
