If you’re looking to rejuvenate your look with a cosmetic treatment, a face or neck lift may be the right choice for you.
A facelift is surgery that can make the face look more youthful by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and tightening the skin of your face and neck.
Facelifts can improve the appearance of:
- Sagging skin
- Drooping of the cheeks around the jawline
- Creases between the cheeks and lips
- Fold lines between the nose and corner of the mouth
If you’re interested in getting a face or neck lift, UR Medicine Cosmetics is here to support you in taking the next step.

Collaborative
We are a joint effort between three specialty departments: Otolaryngology (ENT), Plastic Surgery, and Dermatology. Our physicians work collaboratively to draw on a diverse set of skills and give patients comprehensive care.
Researchers and Educators
Many of our surgeons are teachers and conduct research at the University of Rochester Medical Center, so they are up-to-date on the latest findings and techniques in their field.
What to Expect
Before Surgery
First, you will have a consultation with your physician. As with other forms of cosmetic plastic surgery, you need to have a clear idea of why you want the surgery and a realistic idea of what you hope to look like after it. And you need to discuss these honestly with your surgeon. Your physician will also examine your facial structure, including skin texture, color and elasticity and the underlying bone, discuss how your face can be changed, explain the details of the procedure, and develop a plan for surgery and healing with you.
During Surgery
Although it can take several hours, a facelift is usually an outpatient procedure.
Depending on your surgical plan, you may receive one of the following types of anesthesia:
- Local anesthesia means you'll be sedated and the area around the surgical site will be numbed. You're awake during the surgery, but relaxed and feeling no pain.
- General anesthesia means you'll be asleep during the operation.
After Surgery
Healing is slow and gradual, and sometimes the final results of the surgery aren't apparent for many months. But remember why you chose to have the surgery. If you've met your goals, then your surgery is a success.
