Dual Certificate Program in Prosthodontics and Periodontology

A dual certificate program in Prosthodontics and in Periodontics is offered at Eastman Institute for Oral Health.  Upon successful completion, the graduate is awarded Certificates of Specialty in Prosthodontics and in Periodontics as well as a Master of Science degree in Dental Sciences. 

The program provides comprehensive education and training in all phases of Prosthodontics, Periodontics, and dental implant therapy. The 5 ½ year program also combines didactic, clinical, teaching and research activities and emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to clinically complex cases.

Program Goals

The primary goal of the dual program is to graduate specialists with advanced knowledge in Prosthodontics, Periodontics and Dental Implant Science. They will obtain excellent clinical skills, good exposure in research, and be able to understand and implement evidence-based treatment approaches. The ultimate goal is to develop future leaders in Prosthodontics and Periodontics who are pursuing  academic or clinical careers.  

About the Directors

cDr. Konstantinos Chochlidakis is an Associate Professor and the Program Director of the Prosthodontics Postgraduate Training Program at Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH). Dr. Chochlidakis received his dental degree from the University of Athens, Greece in 2008 and then joined the Greek Army as a soldier dentist. Following the military, Dr. Chochlidakis moved to the United Kingdom and worked as a general dentist in the National Health Service and in private practice. After completing the Prosthodontics residency at EIOH in 2013, he joined Temple University for two years as a full-time Assistant Professor and Co-Director of Clinical Fixed Prosthodontics in the Restorative Department, Kornberg School of Dentistry.

Dr. Chochlidakis is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontists and holds memberships in several dental organizations, including the American College of Prosthodontists, Academy of Prosthodontics, American Prosthodontic Society and the International Team of Implantology. Dr. Chochlidakis holds a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Science and has authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals , and was given the Glen P. McGivney Scientific Writing Award for Systematic Review. He is focused on clinical research conducting clinical trials on full-arch implant prostheses, digital dental technology and dental ceramic materials. He maintains a practice within the University Dental Faculty Group limited to Prosthodontics. He has lectured nationally and internationally on several topics related to clinical prosthodontics and implant dentistry.

Dr. Tsigarida is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Department of Periodontology at Eastman Institute for Oral Health, and a faculty member of its Prosthodontic Program. She attended the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens- Dental School where she graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2008. Following her dental training she moved to the United Kingdom where she practiced as a general dentist, serving in the National Health Service and private practice. A year later, she entered the Periodontal program at the Ohio State University where she served as a chief resident. She received a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree in 2013.

Throughout her training and practice, Dr. Tsigarida has been active in promoting dentistry through her involvement in dental research focusing on the microbiology of peri-implantitis. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and received multiple awards in international research meetings. Dr. Tsigarida is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and an active member of several national dental organizations including the American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, ITI (International Team for Implantology) and the International Association of Dental Research. Dr. Tsigarida served as an Assistant Professor at Kornberg School of Dentistry, Temple University from 2013-2015. and maintains a faculty practice limited to Periodontics.
