Gabrielle Kosoy, Biophysics PhD Candidate in Dr. Ben Miller's Lab, wins 2nd place in UR Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition

Wednesday, April 12, 2023

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. PhD candidates make their research accessible to a wide audience – including policy-makers, community partners, and a general public - by summarizing what would normally be a 9-hour talk into just three minutes. Gabrielle Kosoy, PhD Candidate in Biophysics doing research in Dr. Ben Miller's lab within the Dept of Dermatology, won second place in this year's 2023 University of Rochester Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Kosoy is using sensor arrays to understand the immune response to flu. "The human immune system response to influenza virus is complex and thus not well understood. I am using Arrayed Imaging Reflectometry (AIR) technology to create arrays of flu surface proteins as well as arrays of whole virus to understand the antibody response to antigen presented in a three-dimensional context."
