Stress Tips from the Field: Journey through Forest Bathing
Forest bathing is a simple practice of immersing yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest. Originating in Japan during the 1980s (known as “shinrin-yoku”), it encourages slowing down, being present, and connecting with nature through mindful awareness- more than just hiking or exercising. To try forest bathing, use all your senses—sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste (Bring a snack if the forest doesn’t offer safe items to taste). Forest bathing practices can lower stress, boost your mood, strengthen immune function, and promote heart health by lowering blood pressure and heart rate.Learn more: What Is Forest Bathing and How Does it Benefit Mental and Physical Health?
