The Complex Family Planning Fellowship is an ACGME accredited fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center. This is a two-year fellowship, with 1 fellow matched per year. Start date for program is August 1st.
The primary aim of our program is to equip fellows with outstanding clinical skills and knowledge in abortion and comprehensive contraceptive care through rotations in both hospital and community-based settings. We are the referral center in Western New York for complex abortion care in all trimesters, particularly in patients with multiple medical co-morbidities.
Our fellows will develop an expertise in complex contraceptive care, including difficult contraceptive implant and IUD removals and placements, and comprehensive counseling needed for patients with multiple medical co-morbidities in the only complex contraception clinic in our region.
We will train our fellows to be excellent clinical and academic educators to medical student and resident learners. Teaching sessions will include didactic lectures, values-clarification seminars, and hands on simulation such as the papaya-workshops.
Our fellows will also undergo training in clinical research, and are expected to complete a research thesis by the end of complex family planning fellowship. Research skills are enhanced by educational lectures, Fellowship Fridays, University of Rochester MPH classes and opportunities to attend national research workshops.
Lastly, we will support and encourage our fellows in the field of reproductive health advocacy in the local and national sphere through advocacy opportunities through ACOG, SFP and Physicians for Reproductive Health.
