About the Program
- There are 3 state-of-the-art clinical cardiac electrophysiologic laboratories including a lab with remote magnetic navigation capabilities. All of the electrophysiology laboratories contain cardiac fluoroscopic equipment, 3-dimensional electroanatomic mapping systems, programmable cardiac stimulator, recording devices, and resuscitative equipment.
- Outpatient clinical care consists of faculty precepted weekly participation in Electrophysiology Clinics and outpatient Device Continuity Clinic for patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverters-defibrillators (ICDs).
- Inpatient clinical care units include cardiac care units (CCUs), cardiac surgical intensive care units, general cardiology floors, observation units and other telemetry units.
- A variety of clinical and population-based research opportunities are available, and all fellows are involved in research activities.
- Fellows actively participate in quarterly Quality Assurance meetings and lead Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Active Electrophysiology Lab with research in:
- Cardiac mapping and ablation of ventricular tachycardia
- Novel pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies for atrial fibrillation
- Methods of monitoring patients at risk for atrial fibrillation
- Intra-operative arrhythmia mapping and ablation
- Conduction system pacing and resyncronization therapy
What our fellows say...
"Cardiac Electrophysiology fellowship at URMC was a perfect fit for me. The training I received was top quality, with a very collegial environment, which set up a strong foundation for my independent practice as a specialist and, at the same time, allowed me to be a part of my family as a mother and a wife. During my time as a fellow, excellent faculty support was provided when needed, while allowing my independence to grow and skills to develop. By the end of my training, I have got expertise in the full spectrum of Cardiac Electrophysiology both, clinically and procedurally, including the latest technology in the field. I felt that if I chose to set up my own practice after the fellowship, I would have had sufficient experience to do it. This was a perfect opportunity for me and would join this program all over again."
