Clinical Cases
Care of both adults and children with hematologic malignancies is a particular strength of the University of Rochester Medical Center. The adult lymphoma program is nationally prominent and draws patients from a wide geographic area including many patients with unusual pathologic finding. The University of Rochester Medical Center/Strong Memorial Hospital have about 1,000 inpatient beds and over 40,000 admissions annually. There is an ample supply of routine node and marrow biopsies appropriate for training. The UR Medical Center serves patients’ needs as a community hospital delivering traditional and established medical care services as well as highly specialized and advanced medical treatments. The marrow transplant program performed about 100 transplants in 2012. About 10% of all specimens seen by the hematopathology service are from children. Part of the UR Medical Center, Golisano Children’s Hospital is the largest pediatric facility in Upstate New York, and is the only pediatric marrow transplant program in Upstate New York.
