How to Apply
General Information
Applications will only be accepted through the Association of American Medical College's (AAMC) Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Minimum qualifications include a medical degree, such as an M.D. or a D.O., successful completion of United States Medical Licensing Examination Step 1, and J-1 visa or permanent resident status (if not a U.S. citizen).
Candidates will be considered after one year of postgraduate training or after completing training in medicine, pediatrics, or family practice. Internships (PGY-1) approved by the American Board of Dermatology include transitional, internal medicine, general surgery, family practice, and pediatrics. For residents interested in academic dermatology, special training in dermatology research (clinical and basic science) is available and supported by an NIH training grant. Such a program meets the requirements of the American Board of Dermatology. The program can be tailored for the special needs of candidates with both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. Applicants interested in such a special program should inquire during the interview process.
Our application due date is November 1. We require three letters of recommendation, preferably from dermatology faculty members who have worked with candidate.
International Applicants
It is the responsibility of the individual to secure the proper visa. The only acceptable status is an ECFMG sponsored J-1 visa. We also recognize "green cards." The University of Rochester policy does not permit H-1 or H-1b visas.
If you have any questions regarding visas, please contact the Graduate Medical Education Office at (585) 275-4607. For information regarding ECFMG certification, visit the ECFMG website at www.ecfmg.org.
Interview Information
All positions are offered through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), in compliance with the ACGME rules and regulations. Each winter approximately 30 applicants are invited to interview for five residency positions. Selection is based on academic credentials, and letters of recommendation. Applicants will be notified of interviews electronically through Thalamus, an interview management system. Interviews will be held virtually.
