Chief Residents
Joseph Galgano, M.D.
College: Binghamton University
Medical School: SUNY Upstate Medical University
Joe is a native of Franklin Square, Long Island where he fostered his lifelong love for pizza and bagels. He attended Binghamton University and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Biochemistry. Dr. Galgano subsequently attended medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY where he earned his MD in 2021. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency here at the University of Rochester Medical Center with a Distinction in Medical Education.
When he isn't giving chalk talks on nerdy kidney related topics, you can find him bothering his downstairs neighbors by playing drums, perfecting his homemade pasta dough recipe, winning hands at poker and playing board games with his home friends. Fun fact - he was once hit in the face by a baseball live on TV at a New York Mets game in ~2006 and still has the ball to prove it (as well as the video on his phone if you'd like him to reluctantly show you). Following Chief Residency year, he plans to pursue a career in Nephrology barring no further significant head traumas. Dr. Galgano is extremely excited to utilize his passion for medical education, mentorship and clinical medicine to help make the program a better place to train.
Margaret Kruithoff, M.D.
College: Colby College
Medical School: Tufts University School of Medicine - Maine Track Program
Meg grew up first in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area followed by rural central Maine. She graduated from Colby College in 2012 with a B.A. in American Studies and Creative Writing. After gaining experience in the sustainable agriculture and historic preservation sectors, she pivoted to women's health, working as an administrative assistant and project manager for the Fish Center for Women's Health at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She completed her post-baccalaureate premedical studies at the University of Virginia and earned her M.D. at Tufts University School of Medicine - The Maine Track. She chose the Internal Medicine residency program at the University of Rochester for the camaraderie, thoughtful approach to adult education, and abundance of clinical reasoning masters. Outside of medicine, her interests include trail running, cycling, and ballet.
Kingshuk Mazumdar, M.D.
College: Union College
Medical School: Albany Medical College
Hailing from the great state of Wisconsin, King has always called the Midwest home. He made his first venture East when he attended Union College for his undergraduate education, majoring in Biology and Psychology. At Union, he was part of the Leadership in Medicine program, also completing an MBA in Healthcare Management, before matriculating directly to Albany Medical College to complete his MD. There, he met his now fiancée (a current Infectious Diseases Fellow at URMC) and couples-matched to URMC.
King was drawn to our program's commitments to collaboration, resident education, well-being, patient safety, and quality improvement. He also loved that Rochester reminded him of the Midwest, and how it immediately felt like home! He explored his clinical interests further by both completing the resident distinction track in Quality Improvement and obtaining his title of Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS).
Outside of the hospital, you can find King watching his favorite soccer team (Chelsea FC), listening to early 2000s alternative music (recently attending his 20th Fall Out Boy concert), or playing with his two Guinea pigs (Comet and Chester)!
Angelina Winbush, M.D.
College: Allegheny College
Medical School: University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
Angelina Winbush is from Pittsburgh, PA and attended Allegheny College for her undergraduate studies. While in college, she studied Global Health and Biology and completed a senior thesis which evaluated treatment of perinatal depression in a rural community. After college, she pursued her medical education at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. While in medical school, she conducted microbiome research in the division of Infectious Disease and was involved in SNMA. She went on to pursue an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center. In her free time, she enjoys adventures with her baby and husband, home renovations, baking, and running. She hopes to pursue a career as an academic hospitalist.
