Travel Awards

The following programs provide travel awards:

myHub Travel Award

myHub is sponsoring a travel award for Master and Ph.D. students and postdoctoral appointees in the School of Medicine and Dentistry. The award is intended to help build skills, learn new techniques or explore career pathways relevant to for current or future career endeavors. This award is not intended for academic research-related conferences and/or skills development training related to your academic research.

myHub will present a $1500 award to a Master level, Ph.D. level, and Postdoctoral Appointee, respectively.

Eligibility Requirements

Application will launch April 2024.

  • In-person and virtual experiences are eligible for the 2024–25 academic year.
  • Graduate student (Master or Ph.D. level) or postdoctoral appointee within the School of Medicine & Dentistry.
  • Award application must be applied to opportunities between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025.
  • Postdocs are not eligible to win both the myHub Travel Award and Postdoctoral Association Travel and Development Awards within the same academic year.
  • Prior myHub Travel Award (formerly CPD Travel Award) winners are not eligible.
     

Individuals awarded must provide a one-page follow-up summary about their professional development experience within one month of the opportunity to be included on the myHub blogpost webpage.

Application Deadline: Friday, May 17, 2024, by 12:00 p.m.
Note: All applications must include a CV and budget proposal.

Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) Travel Awards

  • Application deadlines are November 15th and April 15th
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • Graduate student in years 1 through 4 of coursework.
    • Active participant in GWIS.

Graduate Student Society (GSS) Poster Session Travel Awards

  • Held annually in late April or early May
  • Eligibility requirements for entry into the poster competition:
    • You must be a matriculated graduate student in the School of Medicine and Dentistry and in good academic standing.
    • Entries should present your thesis research performed at the University of Rochester, and may not include research performed at other institutions, in lab rotations or in previous technical positions (collaborations with other institutions is allowed).
    • Entries from previous GSS Poster Session competitions are ineligible for entry.

Medical Faculty Council (MFC) Student/Trainee Travel Award

  •  Eligibility requirements:
    • University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry (URSMD) medical student, graduate student, postdoctoral trainee, clinical resident, or clinical fellow.
    • Applicants must present at a meeting of a national organization.

Postdoctoral Association (PDA) Career Enhancement Award

  • Application deadline is late July
  • Eligibility requirements:
    • All University of Rochester postdocs are eligible to apply except for current PDA Co-Chairs and Vice Chairs and former award recipients.

Steadman Awards

  • Application opens in late August
  • Application deadline is mid-September
    • Eligibility requirements:Must be a current postdoctoral associate or postdoctoral fellow at the University of Rochester.

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition for students in 3rd year of study or greater (as well as postdocs)

  • Held annually during the fall semester (September/October)

  • Eligibility requirements for entry into Three Minute Thesis (3MT)
    • Open to current Ph.D. and Professional Doctorate (Research) candidates in their third year of study or greater and postdoctoral researchers.
