The Levitan Family Endowed Scholarship

The Levitan Family Endowed Scholarship, supports an international student in their quest to become a physician. Established in 2007, the Levitan Family Endowed Scholarship is designed to meet a student's demonstrated financial need associated with obtaining a medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Alexander Levitan ’63 (MD), a retired internist and oncologist, has had a lifelong devotion to medicine and to the people of this world. This passion was fueled by his late father Dr. Sacha Levitan, who worked for the World Health Organization. Dr. Levitan and his wife, Lucy Levitan, honored Sacha when they established the Levitan Family Endowed Scholarship at the University of Rochester. This scholarship is a way of saying “thank you” to a treasured family member who was committed to diversity and inclusion through the patient centered art of healing in the Rochester tradition of excellence.

It is hoped that a Levitan Family Endowed Scholar will become an emissary of cultural diversity and experience for our medical school.
