FIPP Joins Injury Free Kids Coalition for National Injury Prevention Day Fair

The Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Rochester and URMC Kessler Trauma Center will be hosting an Injury Prevention Fair in recognition of National Injury Prevention Day. The fair will be held on 11/17/24 at Eastview Mall from 12:00 -3:00 p.m. and features a wide variety of vendors providing information about injury prevention (poison control, fire department, audiologists, etc.).

FIPP Team Educates and Provides Resources During Gun Violence Awareness Month

The Firearm Injury Prevention Team will attend several community and clinic tabling events during June, which is Gun Violence Awareness Month. The team will share information and handouts about the importance of storing firearms safely and securely to prevent unintentional injury, suicide and firearm theft. Free cable gun locks also will be available.

Firearm Injury Prevention Co-Director Honored During Women's History Month

Corey Nichols-Hadeed, JD, Co-Director for the Firarm Injury Preventino Program, was recognized as a leader making a difference in community health. Ms. Nichols-Hadeed was honored for her work in psychiatry exploring the imact of policy and law on health outcomes, with a focus on patient safety across the lifespan. FIPP Team Attends Northwell Health Forum

FIPP Co-directors, Corey Nichols-Hadeed, JD, and Jennifer West, PhD, and Program Manager, Kelly Johnson, virtually attended the annual Northwell Health Gun Violence Prevention Forum. The forum is held annually, to bring together Northwell Health’s partners to “form strategic alliances, drive actionable outcomes and elevate the national conversation around [firearm injuries and death] as a public health emergency.”
FIPP Training - Children’s Home Health Service

Jennifer West, PhD, presented to clinicians of the University of Rochester Medical Center's Children's Home Health Service clinicians. The presentation focused on the importance of safe firearm storage in the prevention of unitentional firearm injury and death, and ways clinicians can have effective conversations with patients about storing their firearms safely.
Firearm Injury Prevention Program Presents Educational In-Service about Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention

Corey Nichols, JD, and Jennifer West, PhD, presented an in-service education presentation to the Strong Memorial Emergency Department Social Workers about the positive impact community agencies have in violence prevention and intervention in Rochester. The presenation featured respresentatives from loacl community agencies that provide violence prevention, intervention, and survivor services: Rise Up Rochester, Pathways to Peace and 585 SNUG.
