Education & Training
Safe firearm storage is shown to be the most effective method to prevent suicide and unintentional injury or death by firearm. It also reduces the risk of firearm theft, which can prevent homicides and assaults caused by stolen guns.
Health Care Providers
The Firearm Injury Prevention Program is developing educational resources and trainings for providers to learn how to effectively counsel around safe firearm storage and what steps to take when someone is at risk of injuring themselves or others with a firearm. We will also continue to add resources to our website for providers and others interested in improving their firearm injury prevention skills.
To learn more about our training, please email the FIPP Team.
Kessler Trauma Center - Outreach & Injury Prevention provides information on prevention programs & resources for the community.
Community
Patients and community members will learn the importance of safe firearm storage to prevent suicide and accidental injury or death as well as theft of firearms. We will provide resources to help firearm owners take steps to store their firearms more safely and help firearm owners and non-owners have productive conversations about safe firearm storage with family, friends, and neighbors.
