Urban Practice - Nurse Practitioner Residency Program

NP Residency Benefits

This 12-month NP residency program provides FNPs interested in working in primary care with a number of advantages. In addition to the paid, full-time residency position, NP residents will:

  • Improve clinical confidence required for comprehensive primary care.
  • Develop outcome-driven skills to care for high-risk patients.
  • Prepare for advanced leadership positions.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Recent FNP graduate (<12 months) from an accredited Masters or Doctor of Nursing Practice program with a desire to work in primary care.
  • New York State Licensure to practice as an FNP with full prescriptive privileges.
  • National certification in Family Practice
  • Registered by the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe Category II through V drugs.

Curriculum

The NP Residency has four key components:


Preceptor Continuity Clinics

(5-6 sessions per week)
NP residents develop their own patient panel while having a HFM provider as a dedicated preceptor.

Specialty Rotations

(2-3 sessions per week)
Rotations may include: Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Urology, Women’s Health, Behavior Health, Neurology/ Cardiology, Oncology, Pain Management/Palliative Care, Allergy, Immunology, Rheumatology, ENT, GI, Pharmacy, Psychosocial, or Wound Care.

Mentored Clinics

(1 session per week)
NP residents work as a member of a suite team and will see patients for acute and episodic care with a dedicated preceptor.

Interprofessional Education Sessions

(1-3 sessions per week)
Hands-on learning sessions with Family Medicine Residents focusing on a variety of complex clinical challenges within the primary care setting.
