Focus on Interior Construction

There will be little or no exterior construction for the next couple of weeks as demolition and new construction focus on the interior of the building.  Delivery trucks will continue utilizing the South Access Drive off South Avenue with no deliveries before 7 a.m.

Brick Exterior Removal

Crews will begin removing the brick on the east and south sides of the South Addition during the next week. Demolition of the ramp and courtyard area between the South Addition and the South building will also start in the next two weeks. This work could possibly involve a jackhammer, but crews will be trying to saw cut the concrete as much as they can in attempt to avoid using a jackhammer.

There will also be an increase of deliver trucks and dumpster deliveries and removals utilizing the South Access Drive resulting in an increase of truck traffic coming off South Avenue and the sound of back up alarms can be expected.

Metal Panel Removal Continues

Crews will continue removing the metal paneling on the outside of the 3rd floor South Addition Mechanical Penthouse.  Windows on the east and south side of the South Addition (1st and 2nd floors) have been covered with plywood for protection, along with the windows in the CafĂ© looking into the courtyard.  This work is anticipated to last another week and will  create normal levels of construction noise.

Following the metal panel removal, the brick on the east and south sides of the South Addition will be removed. There will be some noise and dust created while this work is going on.

Metal Panel Removal

This week, the exterior building demolition crew has set up scaffolding on the roof outside the west side of the 3rd Floor Mechanical Penthouse and have begun removing the metal panel skin on that side. They will continue working their way around the penthouse removing paneling for approximately 2 weeks. This is anticipated to create normal levels of construction noise.

South Tower Construction To Begin

After a six-month pause due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Highland Hospital’s South Tower Project will start up again this month. The Project is a modernization effort that will enable the hospital to provide private rooms for nearly all of its patients. It will add four levels plus a mechanical penthouse to the hospital's southeast wing - three of the floors will house a total of 58 patient rooms and one floor will house other clinical programs. Representatives from Highland Hospital and LeChase Construction will be presenting at the NBN6 zoom meeting on Monday, October 5. Updates will also be available weekly on the Highland Hospital Facilities Blog and contact information is available under the “Contact Us” tab.
