Dr. Erica Miller Named Program Director for Medicine-Pediatrics Residency
Dr. Erica Miller was recently named Program Director for Medicine-Pediatrics Residency, succeeding Dr. Brett Robbins as he transitions into his new role as Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Miller earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College and completed residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics with distinction in research at the University of Rochester. She also completed Cardiovascular Disease fellowship training at the University of Rochester, serving as Chief Fellow during her final year of training. She is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, Echocardiography, and Pediatrics.
“I joined the University of Rochester Med-Peds family in 2011 as I started residency, and since then have grown continuously because of this community,” said Dr. Miller. “As Program Director, I am looking forward to working with our residents and the entire Highland and University of Rochester team to provide the best possible care for our patients and create a learning and working environment where everyone can reach their full potential.”
Since joining the faculty in 2018, Dr. Miller has been actively involved in education for medical students, residents, and fellows. She currently serves as the Cardiology Block Leader for the Medical Student Disease Processes and Therapeutics Course and Associate Program Director for the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship and Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program. She has been a highly sought-out career mentor for trainees with interest in medicine, cardiology and other subspecialties, both locally and nationally.
Dr. Miller has also been a champion for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Wellness efforts within her department and institution. She is a member of URMC’s Health Equity Education Taskforce, the Cardiology Division’s Diversity, Inclusion, Culture, and Equity Committee, and the Department of Medicine Physician Wellness Committee. She is a leader of the Strong and Highland Women in Internal Medicine (SHWIM) Faculty Development and Mentoring Group, and Chair of the Department of Medicine DEI Council’s Residency and Fellowship Education Committee. She received the Department of Medicine’s Ritchie Fellowship and the URMC Dean’s Teaching Fellowship for her development of a Health Equity and Quality Improvement curriculum for departmental fellows.
A special thank you to Dr. Brett Robbins for outstanding leadership of the Medicine-Pediatrics program over the past 25 years. During his tenure there have been extensive changes in the practice of medicine and the structure of medical education, and he has met all of these challenges with the flexibility, creativity, determination, and compassion that he has worked so hard to instill in the hundreds of physicians he has trained and mentored. He has been a local and national leader in Medicine-Pediatrics practice and education, and his impact on the specialty is hard to quantify.
