Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
Pelvic floor physical therapy involves the muscle groups that support the pelvic organs, assist in bowel and bladder control, and contribute to sexual arousal and orgasm. Women may benefit from Pelvic Floor PT if they are incontinent or have any of these symptoms:
- Difficulty with urination, bowel movements, or constipation
- Chronic pelvic pain
- Painful intercourse
- Increased urinary frequency and urgency, or leakage with certain movements
- Pain in the back, abdomen, buttocks, hip or thigh
Treatment Plan for Pelvic Floor Conditions may Include:
Education. Patients can benefit from learning more about their pelvic anatomy and how different components work alone and together.
Pelvic floor exercises. Patients are instructed in how to engage and relax their pelvic floor muscles effectively and to use their pelvic floor as a part of the entire system of the core.
Manual therapy. Patients are instructed in how to engage and relax their pelvic floor muscles effectively and to use their pelvic floor as a part of the entire system of the core.
