POST-DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE:

Neuroimaging and chronic pain

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York is offering a post-doctoral position in the Pain and Perception Lab. This role is focused on studying brain biomarkers associated with chronic pain, including the transition from acute to chronic pain. The position is funded by the National Institutes of Health. Candidates should have a PhD in neuroimaging, psychology, cognitive sciences, or a related field. Experience in fMRI experimental design, data collection, and analysis is required.

Under the guidance of Dr. Paul Geha, the post-doctoral researcher will investigate the neurobiological underpinnings of chronic pain, including factors related to risk, resilience, and the transition to chronic pain, using structural and functional neuroimaging. In collaboration with Dr. Zhengwu Zhang at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the researcher will employ techniques in brain connectomics, shape and function analysis, and machine learning to analyze data.

The role also includes collaborations with other imaging disciplines, such as PET, and with both local and national centers dedicated to the study of pain and opioid addiction.

Ideal candidates should be proficient in spoken and written English, efficient, self-motivated, have experience in interfacing with clinical services for patient recruitment, and be able to work well in a team. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop and further refine research projects.
