Alumni

PalomaPaloma Avendano is an empirical research fellow at the Northwestern Kellogg School of Management. She graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Economics and a B.A. in Statistics. She was a research assistant on the team from 2020-2021, and worked on a variety of tasks and projects, from literature reviews to data collection and analysis. Her main interests are Maternal Health, and Labor Economics.

KatieKatie Bisson graduated from the University of Rochester in 2020 with a B.A. in Economics.  As a research assistant, she provided support on various projects incorporating data analysis and environmental health.

BoslettAndy Boslett completed his PhD in environmental and natural resource economics at the University of Rhode Island in 2016. His fields of interest are applied microeconomics, energy economics, environmental economics, and health economics.

ErinErin Campbell is a research analyst at Resources for the Future (RFF) in Washington, D.C. She graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in Environmental Health, B.A. in Economics, and a minor in Statistics. She was a research assistant on the team from 2019-2021 and worked on a variety of tasks and projects, from literature reviews to data cleaning/analysis and writing. Her work focuses mainly on environmental-justice, -economics, and -epidemiology.

DenhamAlina Denham is a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Health Care Policy of Harvard Medical School. She completed her PhD in Health Services Research and Policy at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2021. She worked as a graduate research assistant at HEEL in 2017-2021, examining the impact of shale gas development on hospital utilization and mortality and researching the problem of unclassified drug overdose deaths. While at the Lab, Alina co-authored eight papers with Dr. Hill. Alina's current research program focuses on understanding how disadvantaged populations use various health care services in combination and on investigating the issues of "silent missingness" in claims data.

GirskyAvery Girsky is a recent data science and mathematics graduate currently pursuing a Master's in Analytics at Georgia Tech. He is captivated by the potential of every dataset to provide critical information towards solving real-world problems.

LiuLinxi Liu joined the Epidemiology PhD program at University of Rochester in 2016. Prior to entering the department, she received her BS in Preventive Medicine from Sichuan University, China, in 2013. She also received an MS in Epidemiology from University of Pittsburgh in 2016. Her research focused on cardiovascular health issues in the Unconventional Natural Gas Development (UNGD) industry.

Klint ManeKlint Mane is an economist at Keystone Strategy with a PhD in applied microeconomics from the University of Rochester. His research interests include labor economics, personnel economics, education and more.

PramodPramod Manohar is a PhD Student at the University of California Berkeley in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 2023 with a double major in Economics and Mathematics.

EshaEsha Mardikar graduated from the University of Rochester in 2023 with a double major in Economics and Philosophy and a minor in Statistics.

HernandezVictor Hernandez Martinez is a research economist in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. His research interests are labor economics, public economics, and applied microeconomics.

PappasJordan Pappas is a product manager at Syndicate, a web3 startup using crypto to democratize investing. He graduated from the University of Rochester with an M.S. in Data Science and a B.S. in Business Analytics. He was a research assistant on the team from 2019-2021, leading projects in literature reviews and machine learning. His main interests were oil and gas development and the opioid epidemic.

CrystalQiuyuan (Crystal) Qin completed her PhD at the University of Rochester in the Health Service Research department. Her research interests include COVID-related analysis, health economics, health outcomes, statistical methods and machine learning.

ArunArun Ramesh is a research fellow at Stanford Law School. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in Data Science, a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Mathematics. He was a research assistant on the team from 2020-2021 and worked on projects focusing on the impacts of environmental policy on health outcomes, such as drinking water quality to coal production. He was involved in tasks ranging from literature reviews to data cleaning/analysis to writing.

Tarsha Vasu graduated from the University of Rochester in 2020 with a B.A. in Economics and B.S. in Business Analytics. As a part of the team, she worked on different projects, helping with writing literature reviews, data cleaning and analysis. She primarily worked on projects relating to the environmental and health impacts of natural gas production and environmental inequities and injustices.

Samiksha Vittalraj studied Public Health at the University of Rochester and graduated in 2020. As a research assistant, she provided support on various projects incorporating data cleaning and data analysis, including projects related to COVID state specific data and Coroner/Medical Examiner systems across states.

AyushiAyushi Saxena completed a MS in Data Science at the University of Rochester in 2022. She is interested in applying Data Science techniques to solve social problems in domains like healthcare, climate change, etc.

EvanEvan Volkin is a data analyst at AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in Business Analytics and a B.A. in Economics. He was a research assistant on the team from 2020-2023, and Lab Manager from 2021-2023. Throughout his tenure, he was involved in a variety of tasks, including data analysis, lab recruitment/management, and writing. Evan’s work focused on the impact of policy on health and environmental outcomes.

ZavezAlexis Zavez is a statistics PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics and Computational Biology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She received her BA in Economics and Statistics from Swarthmore College. In the lab, Alexis studied drinking water quality and patterns in drinking water contamination. Her research interests also include quantifying the adverse economic and health outcomes that result from contaminated drinking water.

ZendejasKarla Zendejas graduated with a B.A. in Economics and a minor in the Environmental Humanities from the University of Rochester in 2023. She is currently a consultant at Bates White Economic Consulting in the Mass Torts Practice and is passionate about using data and statistical analysis to solve problems.

ZhangLujia Zhang is an incoming PhD student in the Global Health and Population department at Harvard University. She graduated from the University of Rochester in 2019 with a B.A. in Economics and B.S. in Environmental Health. She is primarily interested in understanding how healthcare interventions and financing mechanisms can provide more cost-effective and equitable ways to deliver healthcare in low- and middle-income countries.

SenqiSenqi Zhang is a master's student at Columbia University studying data science. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.S. in data science in 2021. He was a research assistant on the team from 2020-2021. He helped on data acquisitions, cleaning and analysis. He mainly worked on the HEI project, conducting spatial analysis on road and CoreLogic data.
