Welcome to the Lung Biology and Disease Program
The Lung Biology and Disease Program represents the coordinated efforts of more than 30 faculty members whose research focuses on the lung. The program members consist of both MD and Ph.D. faculty with research interests in basic science aspects of lung disease, translational and pre-clinical animal models, as well as clinical research.
The program hosts an annual Lung Research & Trainee Day that celebrates lung disease research at the University of Rochester, which features posters from graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and staff from many departments at the University. Lung Research & Trainee Day also features a distinguished guest speaker that presents on his or her current research into lung disease and participants in a career development round table discussion.

Our Research
The goal of the program is to enhance the research of our faculty and students. Our researchers are interested in the basic science aspects of lung disease, translational and pre-clinical animal models, as well as clinical research.
Grant Awards
Our Lung Biology faculty span multiple departments and centers and have received Pilot Project Awards from NIH/NHLBI with projects in heart and lung fibrosis, cigarette smoke induced lung injury, acute lung injury, and more.
Opportunities for Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Training
The University of Rochester Medical Center has had continuous support from the National Institutes of Health for doctoral and postdoctoral training in disciplines related to lung disease since 1970. Our program supports both predoctoral students and postdoctoral fellows. The candidates for the doctorate usually attain their degrees in toxicology, microbiology and immunology, pathology, and biochemistry.
