Basic Research
The University of Rochester Medical Center is one of the top 25 funded academic medical centers in the USA. While basic research cannot be applied to patient care immediately, it is a starting point critical for moving our understanding of disease forward. Breakthroughs here could lead to the treatments of tomorrow.
The Nephrology Division has an active research enterprise, we currently have several principal investigators who have been awarded of NIH grants.
- Shannon Hilchey, Ph.D.
- Dean Johnson, Ph.D.
- Thu Le, M.D.
- Keith Nehrke, Ph.D.
- Jing Wu, Ph.D.
- Martin S. Zand, M.D., Ph.D.
Clinical Research & Trials
The University of Rochester Medical Center has a wide range of both Clinical Research and Trials that is helping to improve patient’s lives. One of the greatest benefits of clinical research is that it provides patients with access to the most current medical treatments, often years before they become available at other hospitals.
Clinical trials are a research study that involves human volunteers and is designed to answer specific health questions. Carefully conducted clinical trials are the safest and fastest way to find effective treatments, and new ways to improve health.
