The Department of Medicine is the largest academic department in the Medical Center consisting of 15 medical subspecialties, all with active research programs.

Our research portfolio comprises substantial support from the National Institutes of Health as well as other federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, industry, foundations, and philanthropy.

Core to our mission is nurturing the growth of physicians and scientists. With 16 endowed chairs, we are dedicated to providing unwavering support. We offer dedicated resources, protected time, and highly effective mentoring teams to all Department of Medicine researchers. We have a formal ABIM Research Pathway as part of our Internal Medicine Residency Program, training the next generation of physician-scientists. We are proud of the impact and success of our research teams and continue to grow this mission through recruitment of stellar faculty and staff.
