UR Medicine Child Neurology Concussion Program
The UR Medicine Child Neurology Concussion Program offers comprehensive care for sport-related and non sport-related concussions. Concussions affect over 3.8 million Americans annually and result in over 2.2 million emergency department visits each year. This injury can produce symptoms such as headache, dizziness, difficulty with memory and concentration, difficulties with balance, and fatigue that can interfere with participation in school and sports. Despite a common belief that concussions are not treatable, multiple pharmacologic and physical therapy-based treatments exist. These treatments can speed recovery and a return to normal activities. After performing a comprehensive evaluation of the brain systems typically affected by concussion—including memory, balance, and vision-- our providers will recommend a recovery plan tailored to meet the needs of each concussed child.
